Machukuna were said to be creatures made from bones found in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia. According to legend, the Machukuna spent their days toiling in the fields to atone for the sins committed in life. In performing these labors, it is said they hoped to regrow their skin and start their lives anew.
Unlike their folkloric cousins the Suq'a, Machukuna were not known to be hostile, the Machukuna were nonetheless reputed to carry disease and bring bad luck with them wherever they went.
