BORN 1909 • DIED-
Other than her obvious French origin, not much was known about Jessica DeLacroix. Elusive and cold, Ms. DeLacroix was in possession of many talents, both violent and cunning, but her demeanor never wavered from that of a carefully crafted stoic. Rare was the occasion that her true identity made an appearance, but on such occasions, the viewer was never left unscathed.
Always the opportunist, Ms. DeLacroix rarely missed an advantage, especially when it came to money or information gathering. Just what it was she did for money or for whom she was gathering information was never made clear, but the elegant way in which she carried herself suggested that, whatever the case, she was very good at what she did.
In January of 1933, at the height of the Great Depression, Ms. DeLacroix answered a newspaper advertisement seeking the brave and curious alike to accompany the Caduceus Foundation—a medical aid organization based in New York—to Bolivia, where a deadly civil war was raging. For reasons that would remain her own, Ms. DeLacroix answered the ad and headed into the jungle.
